"...a surreal picture...you're stunned at what's been going on in the peaceful mountains."
New Eden, Montana, the nicest spot of beauty this side of heaven, was a place where you could have a crystal stream in your front yard and cows galore in the pastures that were surrounded by mountains that seemed to go on forever. But somewhere in the hills lurked a murderer.
Marilee Jennings inherited about eighty acres of land from her best friend who died under strange circumstances, so she picked up her life and decided to get away from the city...and the man who'd broken her heart. She has no idea how important the move will turn out to be.
J.D. Rafferty is watching over the place that Marilee has just come to own and he doesn't know it yet but she's going to impact his life in a way he swore no woman would ever do. He's a looming presence of a man and all cowboy through and through. Not to mention his gruffness or his liking of sex any way he can find it. He wants Marilee's land to add to his ranch and he'll scheme to get it away from her.
Marilee takes offense to his ungentlemanlyness and is continually telling him to get off her land and as far away from her as possible. You can feel the attraction between both of them as she tries to find out what happened to her friend and he tries to tell her that some things are just better left alone. Their stubborness draws you into passionate fights and arguments so much so that you don't know whether or not you hate him or love him, or if they're going to fight or have a tumble in the hay!
Their heated ways just seem to bring you into their lives and you want him to stop being so hard headed and love her, and her kindness makes you want to tell her to look around and realize this isn't right, just walk away. But Marilee is determined to find out what her friend Lucy was into, and he's just as determined to get her to leave. And, of course, to sell him the property.
While they're batting back and forth, she's getting closer to finding out what happened and why her friend had to die and he's getting under her skin in a kind of way that she can't quite figure out. They're both strong willed, and that trait brings them together with explosive sex and then tender love making that will almost burn your fingers. Their lives become entwined in her search for answers and in the end you knew something was wrong with such a surreal picture...but you're stunned at what's been going on in the peaceful mountains.
I love Tami Hoags books. She can bring the pictures of the book to your mind, and she invades your brain with images of the most mind numbing sex. You'll be left wanting more. This is not your ordinary romantic suspense novel.
