"...danger, excitement, and love..."
King Richard of England has passed away and with him also died the pardons for Robin of Locksley, Will Scarlet, Friar Tuck, and several others whom Marian has come to care about. While she loves Robin, she would do anything to save him – including making a deal with his father, who has made it no secret that he doesn’t care for Marian.
William deLacey, now acting on Prince John’s orders, is determined to find the outlaws once housed by Marian. Destroying her home, deLacey incurs Marian’s wrath on both himself and Prince John. Marian is now set on revenge and is only too happy to see the outlaw Robin Hood restored in Sherwood Forest.
A tale fraught with danger, excitement, and love, Lady of Sherwood gives us a different slant on Robin Hood and his merry band of thieves. While I would typically throw myself into a tale such as this whole heartedly, I found the beginning to be rather slow. The story didn’t really pick up until mid-way through the book. While I continued to read and enjoyed the last half of the story, most readers would have put the book down before getting to that point. It isn’t your typical romance novel.
If you enjoy tales of Robin Hood, by all means give this book a try, you’ll probably love it. But if you prefer more of a conventional historical novel, you may not enjoy this one quite as much.
