Does anyone else have to steal moments to read during the day? Whether it’s from your kids or work, do you find yourself sneaking off to the restroom or finding a nice quiet place to hide so that you can read your favorite books?
I did and do. When I worked outside the home I’d often take a book to work with me. At times I would take that book into the restroom with me. Of course, that only allowed for a very few moments, but still it would get that much further in the wonderful story I was reading. Even now when I’m home I find myself with book in hand stealing a moment or two in the laundry or bathrooms. It’s like a peaceful break from the norm of the day.
My question to you is this…where’s the oddest place you’ve stolen a moment to read?

I’m not sure how odd this is, but I always take a book to the doctor’s office with me and read while sitting on the examining table in one of those hideous paper gowns with the ceiling air conditioning vent spewing frigid air on me. Talk about needing an escape from reality! But perhaps my oddest experience in that situation was when the doctor asked me to take a chapter of his work-in-progress home with me to read and critique. I did, and his writing was so horrible that I just never went back to him again rather than having to tell him what I thought of his writing. :-)

It’s not exactly romantic, but I proof-read a manuscript while waiting for the induction drugs to kick in with my first baby. That was nineteen years ago, and since then I’ve learned to read on the run, hiding in a treehouse or in the greenhouse (not so good, unless there’s plenty of foliage to hide behind – the family can see you!)
