Historical Heroes

I thought about opening this post with something corny like, “To Scott or not to Scott” but, well, that isn’t me online. Maybe in person, for those who know me, but seriously I’m not that corny. :)

So, instead I thought I’d mention my love for historical heroes. Frankly, if you’re like me (and some of my friends) you’re fascinated by them (heroines are great, but seriously, we women tend to love to look at or get a picture in our mind of the hunky men, right!). They’re big, strong men who always take care of their women. They’ll die for them, they’re always there to take up for their honor, and in the end, they usually always fall in love with them…even if that original marriage proposal was for other means (selfish, revenge or whatever).

Some of my favorite historical heroes are Scottish. Like most, I see a Scottish cover and go wild thinking of what’s happening inside that cover. Check out the covers to the left and see if you don’t do a little fantasizing of your own!

Historical Authors

Now if you’d like to break that love of historical’s down to authors I love to read the most, you’d definitely find Jo Ann Ferguson, Julie Garwood, Sabrina Jeffries, Haywood Smith, Amanda Quick, Heather Grothaus…to name a few. I also have a few by Sherrilyn Kenyon’s alter ego, Kinley MacGregor.

But the ones I tend to re-read time and again are Julie Garwood’s wonderfully tied together Scottish heroes. While I’d recommend you start with any of Julie’s books, the one that tops all others for me is Saving Grace. It’s a romantic tale that will endear you to the heroine first, and most certainly the hero.

Next up on the blog will be a post by WWR Author Sponsor and historical author, Leanne Tyler!

Heather,

I agree with you on Saving Grace as being on of Julie Garwoods top books to read. That is a wonderful story. Even though I read it in 1994 I still remember it fondly.

Besides liking the Scottish heroes, I enjoy reading Scottish romances for the brogue. It’s a treat to actually hear it spoken in a movie or TV show. Forget what’s under the kilt, just talk to me. (LOL – not literally) Whisper in my ear, let me feel your hot breath on my neck…

Ok, I’m leaving the highlands and going back to Charleston to a more genteel time.
