Micah Keeps Vigil
by Marilu Mann
There’s a quote I read that spoke to me on a deep level.
We and the beasts are kin. ~ Ernest Thompson Seton
What if we really are? What if beasts walked beside us, down city streets, in grocery stores, at the post office? What if they walked among us in human form? Would we know them? Would they show themselves to us? If they were stronger, faster, more durable, would they want to live peacefully with us or would they want to rule the world?
Some would prefer to stay hidden, staying out of our sight, living among us without exposing their darker sides to us. What of the others? Would they prefer that we acknowledge them, answer to them, work for them? What happens when the world, as we know it, ceases to exist and the shifters come out of hiding?
Let me introduce myself. My name is Micah Keeps Vigil. Though I was born in Arizona, I now reside in northern Wisconsin in a wilderness retreat called Wild Haven. I know firsthand how blurred the line between human and animal can be, and I know how easily that line can disappear. You see, I am one of those creatures, part animal-part human. I walk among the humans and I rule among the animals. I am Alpha of the Wild Haven Pack, and I am here to tell you about some of my friends.
Antonio Pantera is one of my closest friends. He lives in New Orleans, owns an Antiques shop and on occasion walks on four legs as a Panther. Tony is another who knows what it means to blur that line between animal and human. He knows what it means to live in both worlds, to deal with the fear inherent in humans when there is something around them they don’t understand. Tony meets his match in Marilu Mann’s first book – Changing Times. This is the first in the Lusting Wild Series and you can find it at Ellora’s Cave.
Another of my acquaintances is Malcolm Slade. Slade lives on the edge of that blurred line, more animal than human most of the time. Slade knows what it means to move between fear and anger, to let the animal take control. Though Slade and I will never really be friends, I like to think we’ve moved past some of the issues we’ve dealt with and can at least be in the same room without killing one another. Marilu tells Slade’s story in Changing Hearts – Book 2 in the Lusting Wild Series. He too meets his match, the one who just might be able to tame him – or then again, maybe not.
And what about me? Well, yes, Marilu has told my story as well. She shows you what it means to live among us. To share in our secrets and deal with our lives as both human and animal. My story will be Book 3 in the Lusting Wild Series. You’ll just have to continue to visit Marilu’s website for updates on when you can read Changing Focus. For now, I will leave you with this…
Be aware of those around you, how they walk, how they think, how they live. It just may be that Marilu will be telling your neighbor’s story…or your doctor’s story…or perhaps, even your story should you meet and fall in love with one of us. Remember, sometimes the line between human and animal is blurred. Sometimes that line disappears completely.
You can sign up for Marilu’s group if you like. It’s a quiet place which is how I like it.

I have often thought that cats were space aliens in disguise, sent to Earth to take us over one person at a time. That’s what led me to write my paranormal stories about shapeshifters — but unlike yours, mine would prefer NOT to be shifters …
Please feel free to read an excerpt from Changing Hearts at http://www.greatmta.com/ch_excerpt.shtml
Awesome post, Marilu! Just a quick fyi…if you click on the titles of the books and Ellora’s Cave in the above post you’ll be taken to places to purchase or read excerpts. :-)
Just in case the colors blend too much to notice them. I’m working on a new design with some stronger, bolder colors. The light stuff just isn’t working well! ;-)
Talk to you all soon!

JL, I love your stuff!
Heather, it’s my eyes. I have old eyes that don’t distinguish well. They are only rivaled by my terrible hearing!
I had no trouble seeing the links and was sure glad I checked out the cover link. What a great cover! Congrats on a great post, Marilu.

Thanks Carolynn. I really think it’s my eyes! :)
I was absolutely fascinated by the idea of shape shifting cats! ;-)
The cover is great for Changing Hearts. I thought the body was just to die for! And it suited the description, which so many don’t these days. The one for Changing Times works too. Did they use the same “body” double and just add heads or what, though. Can there be that many great bodies out there…
Here’s to hoping you write many more fascinating shifters!
We were delighted with the cover. The cabin in the background is perfection and his long hair does suit Malcolm very well. :)
No clue on the head swapping but it does remind me of a bad joke. LOL I won’t share it here but it’s an old Boudreaux and Thibedeaux one.
What an intriguing post, I’m drawn in!
