Though she swears she's a Tennessee gal at heart, Donna Wright spent her childhood in a small Jersey town nestled near the Big Apple. By the age of 14, she had already begun spinning tales of love and discovering the joy of reading romance novels.
After over ten years of writing, while living in Tennessee, Donna found the Smoky Mountain Romance Writers. What she found was a group of women with the same dream...to become published authors. It was with them that Donna began her journey toward publication.
Over the next five years, she attended many conferences, and entered and finaled in several contests (including SMRW's Laurie and the TARA sponsored First Impressions).
In 2002, Donna finaled in SMRW's Sweet, Spicy and Spooky contest. The final round judge, Avalon editor Erin Cartwright-Niumata, had liked what she'd seen. Not only did she rank Donna as the first place winner, she also wrote the contest coordinator of her interest in seeing the finished product—of what was then called, This Little Piggy Went to Court.
Those who knew Donna at the time can certainly recall her disbelief...and procrastination. In October 2003, nearly one year after receiving the request for a complete, Donna finished the book and mailed it to Avalon. A short while later, she received the call.
Finally, her dream had come true.
In 2004, Inadmissible: Love—a story of two successful lawyers who battle on behalf of their clients to determine who should receive custody of the couple's beloved Joey—was released. And from that first sale, sprang a series called Tennessee: Love containing four novels to be released during the next year or so.
And so her career began...
Donna Wright is an active member of the Smoky Mountain Romance Writers, serving in different capacities including President, Vice President and Conference Coordinator. She has also been honored with SMRW's highest honor, the Ellie Service Award for her dedication to the group and romance industry. She currently resides in East Tennessee with her husband of 24 years and teen-aged son.
